Book Signing & Author Talk

Caroline Lucas

Saturday 6th July 2024, 5-7pm

Asthall Manor, Burford, Oxfordshire, OX18 4HW

The beautiful Jacobean Asthall Manor near Burford is the setting for an author talk and book signing of Caroline Lucas‘s Another England which Jaffé & Neale is supporting. Caroline is MP for Brighton Pavilion and the Green Party’s only MP. In this prescient book, she delves into our literary heritage to explore what it can teach us about the most pressing issues of our time and she sketches out an alternative Englishness: one that we can all embrace to build a greener, fairer future.

Book Signing & Author Talk

Ed Peppitt

A note from Ed on ‘The Beacon Bike’:

3,500 miles. 327 lighthouses.

When I was a child, family holidays were spent with my grandmother, who lived on Romney Marsh, in the southeast corner of Kent.

I had the attic bedroom at the top of her house, and each night my bedroom wall would light up with a brief flash from Dungeness lighthouse, nearly ten miles away. So began an interest in lighthouses …my family would say an obsession …that has stayed with me all my life.

Forty years later, despite a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, I set off on a 3,500 mile cycle ride around the coast of England, Wales and the Channel Islands – with the aim of seeing every onshore and offshore lighthouse.

Over the course of my journey, I met with former lighthouse keepers, current Trinity House staff, lighthouse enthusiasts, and people who were born and brought up in lighthouses. This was more than a personal journey, it’s a social one.
