Meet Kimiko Barber, Saturday the 19th November at 10.30 AM

Kimiko Barber, teacher of Japanese cookery, will be here in the shop along with a selection of culinary delights, as well as copies of her newest book, Cook Japanese at Home, to talk about her work on Saturday the 19th of November.

Kimiko was born in Kobe, Japan, but moved to England in order to study. After attending university, Kimiko shifted her attention to cooking, a skill that she had picked up from her grandmothers, and later tried her hand at teaching and writing.

Besides teaching at a number of cookery schools, Kimiko also regularly contributes to the food section of the Weekend Financial Times, and has appeared on Radio 4’s Food Program as well as BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen.

Kimiko will be here from 10:30 until 11:30 on Saturday morning, and the event is not ticketed. Cook Japanese at Home is currently in stock at £25.

Events at Jaffe and Neale: An Evening with Geoffrey Strachan, Thursday 25th August at 6:30pm

Andrei Makine and the Search for Love:

A Talk by Geoffrey Strachan

Geoffrey Strachan, award winning translator, will be here in the shop on the 25th of August at 6:30pm to talk about his work, and to celebrate the paperback publication of A Woman Loved, by Andrei Makine.

Geoffrey is a noted translator of French and German literature into English, and is best known for his translations of the works of French-Russian novelist Andrei Makine. Additionally, Geoffrey has translated works by Yasmina Reza, Elie Weisel, and Jerome Ferrari. In the past he has been awarded the Scott-Moncrieff Prize for translations from French, and the Schlegel-Tieck Prize for translations from German.

An Evening with Adam Henson, Wednesday 15th June 7pm

Adam Henson, farmer and television presenter, will be joining us here in the shop on Wednesday 15th June at 7pm to talk about his new memoir, Like Farmer, Like Son.

Adam is most well known for his work on the BBC series Countryfile, and his newest work explores his life as a farmer, and the decisions and people that led him to where he is today. For the first time, he details the history of his family, and the events that took the Henson’s from a life of acting on stage and in film, all the way to the rolling hills of Gloucestershire.

As well as talking about his life, Adam will be answering questions and signing books after the event. Tickets are £5, and are available in store, or online at this address:

Book Signing and Talk with Melissa Hood, Friday 29th April

Melissa Hood, founder of The Parent Practice, will be here in the shop from 10:30am until 12pm on Friday 29th of April to sign copies of her new book, Real Parenting for Real Kids.  Melissa will also be giving a short talk about useful parenting tips, and in particular, how to avoid nagging and repeating.

The Parent Practice was set up in 2004, and since then, Melissa has held hundreds of classes.  Melissa has a certificate in Systemic Family Therapy and is trained in NLP, group dynamics, supporting separated families, as well as non-verbal communication techniques.

Katriona MacGregor, author of Healthy Speedy Suppers, will be here on Saturday the 16th April from 10am until 12pm to talk about her book, and her extensive work, here in the shop.

Trained at Leiths School of Food and Wine, Katriona has worked in cookery schools and restaurants all over the country, both cooking and coming up with delicious new recipes. The event is not ticketed, so feel free to come along.

An Evening With Ruby Wax: Wednesday 13th January

Feeling stressed? Thankfully, we’ve got the solution; very soon, Ruby Wax will be here to talk about her work, as well as her latest book, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled. In it, Ruby explores her new, more accessible theory of mindfulness, and how it doesn’t necessarily need to be hard work in order to be rewarding.

Ruby, who has numerous qualifications in psychology, counselling and cognitive therapy, has long been on the mindfulness scene, having written another book, Sane New World, back in 2013.

The event will take place in St Mary’s Church here in Chipping Norton at 6:30 on Wednesday 13th January. Tickets are £8, and are currently available in the shop.

Autumn Events: David Millar & Alexander McCall Smith

Which do you prefer: the life and times of a professional cyclist, or the exploits of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency? Thankfully, we’re hosting experts in both of those fields, so you don’t have to decide.racer

David Millar, first Briton to wear the leader’s jerseys in the Tour de France and author of bestselling book Racing Through the Dark, will be speaking about his newest title; The Racer: Life on the Road as a Pro Cyclist. The talk will take place at 2pm on Saturday 3rd October, at Cotswold Cycles in Morton-in-Marsh. Tickets are £5, and are redeemable against a copy of The Racer.

Alexander McCall Smith is Emeritus professor of law at the University of Edinburgh, he has published over fifty books and helped to set up the law school at the University of Botswana. The author will be speaking at the Methodist Church in Chipping Norton on 9th October to discuss his bestselling series and its influences. Join us on Saturday the 18th July at 10:30am for an hour of cheese tasting and book signing, courtesy of Juliet Harbutt, creator of the celebrated ‘World Cheese Book’.

cheeseJuliet, who has long been cultivating her knowledge and passion for cheese, frequently gives talks on the subject, and conducts workshops and master-classes for other cheese aficionados all over the world.  As well as creating both the British Cheese awards and the Great British Cheese Festival, Juliet has more recently made several television appearances, with the goal of promoting a better understanding of artisanal cheeses.
